Effective performance reviews are not about ticking boxes or revisiting the past—they are about creating meaningful conversations that drive performance, development, and accountability. When done well, performance reviews provide clarity, strengthen engagement, and help individuals align their efforts with the club’s goals.

Participants will be encouraged to reflect on their current approach to performance reviews and identify practical ways to make them more relevant, engaging, and valuable for both managers and team members.In this practical and thought-provoking session, we explore how managers can move beyond the traditional annual review and adopt a more effective approach to performance management. Drawing on key elements of the Club Managers Leadership & Management (CML&M) program, participants will learn how to create a positive review process, provide constructive feedback, and use performance conversations to support both individual growth and organisational success.

 

Participants will be encouraged to reflect on their current approach to performance reviews and identify practical ways to make them more relevant, engaging, and valuable for both managers and team members.

• The key elements of effective performance management, including feedback, accountability, development, and goal setting 

• How to position performance reviews as a positive and productive process rather than a compliance exercise

• The role of informal performance discussions and continuous feedback in improving team performance throughout the year 

• How to use performance reviews to identify development opportunities and support employee growth
